Dimensional Unveils No-Equity Robotics Residency with Free Hardware and Field Access
Robotics startup Dimensional announces the Dimensional Residency, a no-equity accelerator offering free robot hardware, customer access, and engineering support
On September 26, 2026 (September 25 local time), Stash Pomichter (@stash_pomichter), founder of robotics operating system startup Dimensional, officially announced the "Dimensional Residency"—an accelerator program built specifically for founders working to eliminate physical labor across any vertical using robots. Operating on a zero-equity model, the program provides selected teams with free robot hardware, direct access to industrial customers, testing environments, and dedicated engineering support.

The residency runs for three months in-person in San Francisco and will accept a cohort of 10 teams. Moving beyond pure conceptual ideas or software-only simulations, Dimensional has set a concrete, high-bar entry requirement: applicant teams must have the operational capability to deploy 100 robots into real-world operational environments within the 3-month program window.
No-Equity Model: Free Robot Hardware, Customer Access, and Scaling Support
A defining feature of the Dimensional Residency is its departure from traditional accelerator models that take an equity stake in participating startups. Dimensional operates on a strict zero-equity model, providing critical resources needed to accelerate commercial deployment free of charge.
- Free Robot Hardware: Addressing the steep bill-of-materials (BOM) costs and prototyping barriers that burden early-stage robotics ventures, Dimensional supplies physical, operable robot hardware to participating teams.
- Customer and Field Testbed Access: Rather than keeping projects confined to laboratory testing, the program directly connects founders with customer touchpoints and real-world testing environments across manufacturing, logistics, and service verticals.
- Dedicated Engineering Support: Dimensional provides hands-on engineering resources to help teams scale robot deployments up to 100 units in the field, troubleshooting hardware-software integration bottlenecks, communications, and real-time control issues.
Unlike pure software SaaS startups, robotics ventures face significant hardware manufacturing costs, long procurement cycles, and physical safety validation hurdles. Dimensional's program is structured to directly alleviate these operational and financial bottlenecks without diluting founder equity.
High Entry Bar: 100 Robots Deployed in 3 Months and Mandatory SF Presence
To match its extensive resource commitment, Dimensional has established strict eligibility criteria. Founder Stash Pomichter explicitly emphasized the program's focus on execution capability, stating: "If you can deploy 100 robots in 3 months, apply now. Otherwise pls don't."
This requirement underscores that the residency is designed not for early-stage conceptual research, but for teams equipped with functional hardware and control pipelines who are ready for rapid, high-volume real-world rollout. The program covers any vertical where physical labor can be automated, including cleaning, security, logistics, construction, and healthcare.
In-person attendance in San Francisco is mandatory for the entire 3-month duration. Remote participation is not supported, as all 10 selected teams must collaborate closely on-site with Dimensional engineers to fine-tune hardware and coordinate field deployments. International teams are responsible for securing their own travel and visa arrangements.
Expanding the Dimensional Open-Source Robotics Ecosystem
Dimensional was founded by a team of roboticists and engineers from MIT, Carnegie Mellon University (CMU), Apple, Amazon Robotics, and DJI. The company is developing "Dimensional OS"—an open-source universal operating system for physical space designed to provide a unified software foundation between heterogeneous robot hardware and multimodal AI foundation models.
Today, the robotics industry remains highly fragmented across proprietary OEM hardware and walled-garden software stacks, often forcing developers to rewrite core navigation, perception, and manipulation routines whenever switching robot platforms. Dimensional aims to serve as the "Android for robots," offering a unified framework and SDK that allows developers to write control software once and deploy it across diverse OEM hardware.
By supporting 10 teams capable of deploying 100 robots without taking equity, Dimensional accelerates real-world validation of its underlying OS framework. The deployments generate essential physical interaction data, surface edge cases, and cultivate an active developer ecosystem on Dimensional's stack. Applications are currently open on the official residency website (https://residency.dimensional.org/).
