On October 4, 2026, David Miller (@davidmilr) of Stella Montis Inc. officially unveiled Melty (melty.gg), a platform that allows players to combine PC games from their existing libraries into playable crossover mashups and mods with a single click.

Backed by startup accelerator Y Combinator, Melty has launched as a free desktop application for Windows. The platform enables users to immediately install and run high-profile community concepts—including 'SkyCraft' (a mashup of Skyrim and Minecraft) and 'Elden Craft' (merging Minecraft with Elden Ring)—without requiring manual mod configurations. Melty also introduces a creator workflow designed for AI coding agents, providing structured instructions that allow users to generate and publish custom mashups directly to the platform.
One-Click Setup and Built-In Multiplayer Lobbies
Melty's primary value proposition centers on eliminating the friction traditionally associated with PC game modding.
Standard modding setups frequently demand dedicated mod managers, manual file injection, version compatibility checks, and troubleshooting load order conflicts. With Melty, users browse available mashups and click 'Play'. The desktop client automatically downloads the requisite mod assets and runtime components in the background, configures the environment, and launches the game. Uninstalling a mashup restores the underlying game files to their clean, unmodified state.
- Out-of-the-Box Multiplayer: Each mashup provides an invite link that users can share with friends or use to host public lobbies, enabling immediate cooperative and versus play across supported crossover titles.
- Initial Mashup Roster: Alongside SkyCraft and Elden Craft, Melty showcases titles such as 'Super Mario Ring', 'Skate Warfare', 'Portal Life', and 'Spartan Warfare'.
Publishing Pipeline with AI Coding Agents
Beyond serving as a mod consumer launcher, Melty integrates AI coding agents directly into its creator ecosystem.
The platform provides dedicated guidelines and specification templates designed for tools such as Claude Code and Codex. Users can pass Melty's developer instructions to their coding agent, which generates the mod scripts and handles publishing to the Melty platform. Melty notes that creators can publish from the website, from coding agents via Melty's tools, or directly from a GitHub repository, with all uploads screened for dangerous files. This workflow lowers the barrier for players without deep C++ reverse-engineering or reverse-modding experience, allowing them to translate creative crossover concepts into functional mod packages through natural language prompts.
Genuine Game Ownership and Community Scrutiny
Melty's operating model comes with clear platform boundaries alongside active discussions within the broader gaming and modding community.
A fundamental requirement is verified software ownership. Melty does not distribute standalone games; mashups execute strictly on top of titles already owned by the user (such as games detected in a user's Steam library). If a player lacks one of the required base games for a given mashup, Melty redirects them to the official store page to purchase the genuine title.
At the same time, the technical methodology behind AI-assisted game mashups has drawn scrutiny:
- Orchestration Architecture: Rather than performing a deep binary synthesis of two distinct game engines, Melty operates as a launcher orchestrator, coordinating mod hooks, script execution, and visual asset overlays across running instances.
- Industry Verification Debate: As reported by Video Games Chronicle (VGC), the recent viral proliferation of AI mashup gameplay clips—frequently featuring modders utilizing Claude Opus 5.5 to run concurrent games and superimpose assets—has sparked skepticism among experienced modders and players regarding gameplay depth, copyright compliance, and whether certain viral demonstrations are mere video overlays rather than fully integrated game mechanics.
In response to community inquiries asking for live gameplay demonstrations, Miller stated that the team will showcase more mods being built on Melty this week. The platform's trajectory will serve as a prominent test case for whether agent-assisted crossover modding can mature into a sustainable community ecosystem.
