Windows GPU UNLOCK: UEFI Handoff and Direct Windows Boot for NVIDIA RTX AI Compute
Windows-GPU-UNLOCK provides experimental UEFI GPU unlock and direct Windows handoff for specific NVIDIA RTX 30-series card-and-system configurations, without VB
Windows-GPU-UNLOCK documents experimental UEFI-stage GPU unlock and direct Windows 11 handoff for specific NVIDIA RTX 30-series card-and-system configurations, without modifying VBIOS or replacing official display drivers.

Rather than permanently flashing graphics card firmware or altering standard display drivers, the project attempts the unlock during UEFI boot and then hands control directly to Windows 11 using existing display drivers.
Hardware Configurations and Benchmark Observations
Repository documentation and community logs confirm that success reports apply strictly to specific card and motherboard combinations rather than universally.
- Reported Profiles & Routes: Repository documentation lists profile-specific headless USB or internal boot routes for RTX 3060 12GB (GA104/GA106), RTX 3070 Ti, RTX 3090 FE, and RTX 3090 Ti. Results remain tied to recorded builds, and the RTX 3090 FE result has no controlled locked baseline.
- Measured Throughput: For the RTX 3090 FE B650M run, CUDA 12.6 / cuBLAS 12.6 three-run medians were 124.97 TFLOPS for FP16 tensor operations and 128.93 TFLOPS for BF16 tensor operations. No contemporary controlled locked baseline exists, so these figures do not establish an unlock percentage or universal local-AI speedup.
Requirements and Caveats
The documented internal-headless path requires strict system preparation and recovery awareness.
- Internal-headless prerequisites: The documented quick start requires Secure Boot disabled, a fully decrypted Windows C: drive with BitLocker protection off, and a separate GPT FAT32 EFI System Partition of at least 1 GiB.
- Stability: Long-term reliability, sleep or hibernate resume, and repeated automatic cold-boot reliability remain unverified.
