TaxDome Releases Public API and MCP Server for AI Agents and Developers

On October 29, 2026, TaxDome, an accounting practice management platform serving more than 15,000 firms, officially released a Public API and a dedicated Model Context Protocol (MCP) server. The release opens the platform to every firm, allowing practices to bridge AI assistants such as Claude and ChatGPT directly into their operational practice data.

With this integration, firms can query status and trigger updates through conversational AI interfaces, or build custom automation tools on top of TaxDome data within administrative boundaries set by firm owners.

Native Model Context Protocol (MCP) Server Integration

The central addition in this release is the native MCP server, standardizing connectivity between practice management records and generative AI models.

Accountants can connect Claude Desktop, ChatGPT, or any MCP-compliant interface to query overdue tasks, receive automated client briefing summaries before phone calls, or set up new client profiles directly from email text within a single dialogue. Rather than toggling across separate browser tabs, staff can inspect schedules, workload, and client records through natural language queries.

More than 200 accounting firms participated in the beta phase, testing practical queries across active deadlines, daily workloads, and client communications.

Bidirectional Public API and Granular Security Boundaries

Complementing the MCP server, TaxDome's Public API provides programmatic read and write access to synchronize practice records with third-party software stacks.

  • Workflow Synchronization: Closing an engagement in an external CRM automatically provisions the client account inside TaxDome, while completing a scheduled client meeting advances the associated project pipeline to its next stage.
  • Granular Area Permissions: Firm owners designate which team members can activate the API and MCP connectors, specifying read-only or read/write access individually across different operational modules of TaxDome.
  • Strict User-Level Scope: An active connection cannot exceed the preexisting access permissions of the user who configured it. The AI assistant can only access records and clients already visible to that specific user.

Rollout Timeline and Administrative Considerations

TaxDome is rolling out the Public API and MCP server gradually across all customer firms over the coming weeks.

A public live demonstration of both capabilities is scheduled for TaxDome's Fall Update webinar on November 4, 2026. Firm administrators planning integration must review user access privileges beforehand, as data exposure through external AI connections strictly mirrors individual employee credential tiers.
