On October 6, 2026, Škoda Auto officially launched the facelifted Slavia midsize sedan in India, integrating Google Cloud's Automotive AI Agent directly into its next-generation cabin infotainment suite. Serial production has commenced at the Škoda Auto Volkswagen India facility in Chakan, Pune, with customer deliveries timed to begin across the country alongside the festive season.
Developed on the localized MQB-A0-IN platform, the Slavia has served as a central pillar of Škoda's sedan lineup in the Indian market, delivering approximately 80,000 units sold to date and holding roughly 30 percent market share in its segment. The mid-cycle facelift modernizes the sedan with Google Gemini-backed natural language voice assistance, segment-first rear seating amenities, and a newly developed 8-speed torque converter automatic transmission.
Google Cloud Automotive AI Agent and Next-Generation Infotainment
The primary technological highlight of the updated Slavia is the debut of its in-vehicle 'AI Companion', powered by Google Cloud's Automotive AI Agent.
Mounted on the central dashboard is an upgraded 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment display featuring revised graphics and enhanced responsiveness. Built upon Google's Gemini foundation models, the onboard AI assistant connects cloud intelligence with in-cabin vehicle systems to provide context-aware, hands-free interactions for both the driver and passengers.
- Tuned for Indian English Accents: The speech recognition system has been specifically calibrated to recognize the phonetic characteristics and intonations of Indian English, ensuring high recognition accuracy in real-world driving environments.
- Hands-Free Vehicle Control and Live Information: Drivers can query live news, current trends, and real-time information without looking away from the road, while issuing conversational voice commands to adjust climate control settings, browse music playlists, and manage phone calls.
- Wireless Mobile Integration: The system natively supports wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay across compatible smartphone platforms without requiring wired tethering.
10.25-Inch Digital Cockpit and Segment-First Rear Seat Massage
Complementing the center infotainment interface, the driver's instrumentation and passenger comfort features have received substantial hardware upgrades.
The instrument cluster behind the steering wheel transitions from an 8-inch screen to a larger 10.25-inch Digital Cockpit. The display supports multiple layout configurations, integrating turn-by-turn navigation data with driving information readouts, alongside specialized UI color themes tailored for the Prestige and Monte Carlo trim packages.
- Segment-First Rear Seat Massage: Bringing a luxury feature into the midsize sedan class, the updated Slavia introduces a dedicated massage function for the outer rear seats.
- 360-Degree Area View and Park Pilot: To navigate dense urban streets and tight parking spaces, the vehicle incorporates a 360-degree Area View camera system paired with front parking sensors under Park Pilot.
- Enhanced Thermal Management: Alongside ventilated and electrically adjustable front seats and a single-pane sunroof, Škoda replaced the previous fixed-geometry air conditioning compressor with a variable-geometry unit to significantly improve cooling performance during peak summer heat.
8-Speed Automatic Transmission, Safety Ratings, and Feature Availability
Mechanical changes center on a revised transmission lineup designed to balance urban drivability with fuel efficiency.
For the 1.0-liter TSI turbo-petrol engine, Škoda introduced a segment-first 8-speed torque converter automatic gearbox. This 8-speed transmission is made available beginning from the Classic+ trim, broadening its availability across the range, while a 6-speed manual remains available alongside it. The performance-oriented 1.5-liter TSI turbo-petrol engine retains its 7-speed dual-clutch DSG transmission.
On the safety front, the facelifted Slavia carries forward its 5-star Global NCAP crash test rating for adult and child occupant protection. Standard safety equipment includes six airbags, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), traction control, and hill-hold assist across all variants.
However, several limitations and tiered features should be noted. Škoda has not yet detailed the full roster of regional Indian languages supported by the Google Cloud AI agent, nor has the automaker announced a rollout timeline for other international markets outside India. In addition, the 10.25-inch Digital Cockpit and its custom UI themes are restricted to top-tier Prestige and Monte Carlo trims, and the model continues without an electronic parking brake (EPB) or advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) found on certain rival nameplates.
