Reverse Engineering iOS UI and Animations with AI Agents: 3 Skillsets and Tips
Guide by jaimin (@jaimintf) on reverse engineering iOS app designs with AI coding agents using Appllama, Expo, and Emil Kowalski skills alongside reference apps
On October 27, 2026, developer jaimin (@jaimintf) shared an AI agent-driven workflow and curated skillset collection designed to reverse engineer UI layouts and animations from iOS applications.

3 Essential Reverse Engineering Skillsets
To help AI coding agents produce accurate mobile interfaces and polished motion behaviors, jaimin highlighted three open-source skill repositories:
- App Design: Appllama/appllama-skills — Guides mobile interface structure and visual component styling.
- Best Practices: expo/skills — Injects proven mobile architectural patterns and implementation standards.
- Animations: emilkowalski/skills — Directs fluid micro-interactions and transitions within the codebase.
Overcoming AI Taste Limits: Injecting 3 to 5 Reference Apps
Responding to developer feedback regarding inconsistent visual choices from coding assistants, jaimin noted key prompt and context strategies:
- Inherent Lack of Taste: Leading models such as ChatGPT and Claude inherently lack intrinsic design taste or aesthetic intuition.
- Curated Context Injection: Rather than letting the agent guess visual treatments, developers should identify 3 to 5 apps matching their desired taste and share those specific references directly with the agent. This focused grounding yields significantly higher-quality UI results.
Platform Compatibility and Interaction Details
Through follow-up exchanges, jaimin clarified target platform behavior and animation ergonomics:
- Target Platforms: The setup is optimized primarily for iOS. However, because core mobile design principles largely overlap, it also produces viable results when developing for Android.
- Micro-Interactions and Transitions: The agent handles dynamic screen transitions and nuanced interactions effectively, though mastering prompt control over motion carries an initial learning curve.
