This financing marks a critical milestone for Nous Research, transitioning the organization from open-weights research into delivering production-grade autonomous agent systems directly to enterprise customers and everyday mobile users.
Strong Backing from Major Tech VCs and Global Investors
According to The Wall Street Journal, the Series B round totaled $90 million and drew prominent strategic and venture investors from across the AI hardware and cloud ecosystem:
- NVIDIA (@nvidia): AI acceleration and infrastructure partnership
- M12 (@M12vc): Microsoft’s venture capital fund
- Samsung Next (@SamsungNext): Global innovation and early-stage venture arm of Samsung
- Venture & Crypto Funds: Robot Ventures, Union Square Ventures (USV), Y Combinator, Menlo Ventures, and others
The round equips Nous Research with the capital runway needed to build scalable enterprise solutions while maintaining its foundational commitment to open-weights research.
Bringing Hermes Agent to Mobile and Enterprise Frontiers
Nous Research plans to use the proceeds to significantly accelerate development around Hermes Agent.
The Hermes family (including Hermes 2 and Hermes 3) has earned widespread adoption across the developer community for its strong tool use (function calling), reliable JSON structured outputs, and open reasoning capabilities in local and self-hosted environments.
Nous Research has confirmed that Hermes Agent will expand beyond desktop and terminal setups into a native Mobile App, putting autonomous open-source agent capabilities directly into users' pockets. Concurrently, as noted in the WSJ report, the team is building enterprise-grade open-source assistants tailored for organizations requiring local deployment, strong data privacy, and direct model ownership.
Upcoming NousCon and Recruitment Drive
Alongside the funding announcement, Nous Research revealed plans to showcase upcoming research milestones and product sneak peeks at its upcoming NousCon event. The lab has also opened active hiring across engineering, research, and product roles to support its mobile and infrastructure efforts.
Specific launch timelines for the mobile app and detailed technical architecture specifications are expected to be shared at NousCon and through official Nous Research communication channels.
