LTX Unveils Alpha Gen (Beta): AI VFX Tool Extracting Frame-Accurate Alpha Mattes Without Green Screens
LTX has released Alpha Gen (Beta), an AI-powered VFX tool that extracts frame-accurate alpha mattes for hair, smoke, and glass from ordinary RGB footage without
AI video platform LTX (LTX.io) officially unveiled 'Alpha Gen (Beta)' on October 2, 2026, marking the final release of its VFX Week. The tool automatically extracts precision alpha mattes from ordinary video clips.

Alpha Gen accepts standard RGB video footage and returns an alpha matte that matches the original plate frame for frame, completely eliminating the need for green screen setups, manual rotoscoping masks, or text prompts.
Precision Alpha Matte Extraction Without Prompts or Manual Masks
Traditional visual effects and post-production pipelines have long relied on chroma key studio shoots or labor-intensive manual rotoscoping to isolate subjects from background elements. Conventional automated segmentation tools frequently fail along delicate, semi-transparent boundaries.
Alpha Gen is built specifically to preserve complex edges and translucent surfaces that have historically challenged keyers and roto artists:
- Complex and Translucent Detail Preservation: Accurately isolates fine strands of hair, animal fur, smoke, fire, refractive glass, and splashing water without losing edge gradation.
- Zero-Prompt, Zero-Mask Operation: Requires no bounding boxes, keypoint tracking, or semantic text prompts, processing directly from standard RGB plates.
- Frame-for-Frame Alignment: Preserves native framerates, camera timing, and motion blur characteristics from the source footage to eliminate temporal edge flickering.
Distilled and Full Models: Dual Workflows Across ComfyUI and Cloud
Alpha Gen offers two specialized model architectures tailored to varying performance requirements and scene complexity:
- Distilled Model (Lightweight & High-Speed): Optimized for fast inference and modest hardware footprints, running natively within ComfyUI node environments today.
- Full Model (Complex Scene Processing): A higher-capacity model engineered for demanding shots with intricate layering. Currently restricted to shorter clips, with a dedicated ComfyUI workflow scheduled for future release.
Beyond local ComfyUI installations, creators can also access and test the tool immediately through cloud-based LTX Explore workflow templates (app.ltx.io).
Native Alpha Blending, RGBA, and ProRes 4444 Pipeline Integration
Extracted mattes are designed for frictionless integration into professional compositing workflows.
Alpha Gen's matte can drop directly in as the alpha channel of the original clip, allowing soft edges and translucent elements to blend seamlessly into composite plates. For studios using dedicated NLEs and finishing suites like Nuke, After Effects, or DaVinci Resolve, Alpha Gen supports transparent RGBA sequences and Apple ProRes 4444 export formats.
By removing the physical constraints of chroma key studios and the heavy labor overhead of rotoscoping, Alpha Gen provides practical acceleration for video VFX production pipelines.
