Google Unveils Private Preview of Gemini AI Agents for Enterprise Workspace Automation
Google has announced a private preview of Gemini agents capable of autonomous planning and asynchronous cloud execution across Gmail, Drive, Docs, and Calendar
On October 8, 2026, Google announced the rollout of 'Gemini agent' in an enterprise private preview, introducing autonomous agents that formulate multi-step plans and invoke necessary tools to fulfill user goals.

Moving beyond conversational question-answering, the Gemini agent is engineered to autonomously manage complex business pipelines—from initial market research to populating Google Sheets and drafting presentation slide decks—executing asynchronously in the cloud even after a user logs off.
Native Workspace Integration and Asynchronous Cloud Execution
The core technical advantage of the Gemini agent lies in its direct integration with the existing Google Workspace ecosystem.
- Direct Workplace Context Access: Agents directly reference accumulated business context across Gmail, Google Drive, Google Docs, and Google Calendar to inform their tasks.
- Asynchronous Cloud Processing: Tasks continue running in cloud infrastructure after the user closes their laptop or shuts their browser, ensuring seamless completion.
- Multi-Step Pipeline Completion: Handles chained workflows autonomously, including gathering reference data, generating spreadsheet formulas and data sheets, and creating presentation slides.
By directly leveraging existing workplace communications and documents, this native setup eliminates friction compared to disconnected standalone agent platforms.
Sub-Agent Delegation and Autonomous 'AI Teammate' Architecture
For complex, large-scale workflows, the Gemini agent can dynamically spawn sub-agents to divide and execute tasks in parallel.
Furthermore, agents can be provisioned with their own dedicated email addresses and calendars. This enables organizations to invite them into collaborative team spaces as distinct 'AI teammates', allowing coworkers to assign action items, schedule deliverables, and coordinate reviews just as they would with human colleagues.
Availability and Rollout Roadmap
Gemini agents are currently accessible exclusively under a restricted enterprise Private Preview.
- Expanded Availability: Google plans to progressively extend access to organizations subscribed to Google Workspace Business and Enterprise tiers.
- General Availability and Pricing: Timelines for broader general availability across the wider Workspace customer base and specific add-on pricing structures will be shared in future announcements.
