Cequence Releases 'Agent Trust' to Identify and Control Unlabeled AI Agent Traffic

On October 9, 2026, API security firm Cequence Security officially launched "Agent Trust," a new security solution designed to identify and govern personal AI agent traffic that blends in with regular human web browsing.

The launch comes in direct response to a surge in unidentified personal AI agent traffic following Meta's September 8 rollout of its Muse AI agent.

Real-World Meta Muse Traffic Analysis: Detected Across Over 50% of Studied Enterprises

According to empirical traffic analysis conducted by Cequence Security between September 1 and September 24, 2026, traffic matching Meta's Muse personal AI agent was detected across more than half of the enterprise customer environments studied within just two weeks of its September 8 release. Furthermore, median agent traffic among affected organizations grew approximately sixfold during this window.

Unlike legacy web scrapers or automation bots, personal AI agents are uniquely difficult to detect through traditional boundary defenses:

  • Full Cloud Browser Execution: Meta Muse runs real instances of Google Chrome in the cloud to execute web sessions and navigate interfaces.
  • Consumer VPN Routing: Requests are routed through consumer-grade VPN networks, effectively evading standard data-center IP blacklists.
  • Absence of Agent Signatures: The agent does not declare explicit bot headers or identifying user-agent markers, causing requests to appear indistinguishable from legitimate human browsing in standard firewalls and monitoring tools.

As a result, most organizations have operated without visibility into AI agents actively accessing web endpoints, extracting data, or triggering downstream actions.

Core Capabilities of Agent Trust: Transactional Controls and Biometric Verification

To address these stealthy interactions, Cequence integrated Agent Trust directly into its core Cequence Application and API Protection platform.

Rather than implementing blanket IP or session bans that could disrupt user productivity, Agent Trust focuses on granular, transaction-level governance:

  • Granular Transaction Filtering: Instead of outright blocking agent access, the platform selectively intercepts out-of-bounds or anomalous requests, applying dynamic rate limits and automated security challenges.
  • Biometric Check Verification: Triggers step-up verification for sensitive operations or high-risk transactions to confirm authorized user presence.
  • Live Traffic Visibility: Provides enterprise security teams with clear visibility into the presence, volume, and behavioral patterns of personal AI agents interacting with their web and API assets.

Agent Trust is immediately available to enterprises utilizing the Cequence Application and API Protection platform.
