OpenMausBot has been released as an open-source multi-AI agent desktop application that connects developer CLI tools installed on the local machine through a Telegram-style messenger interface. The project is distributed under the Apache 2.0 license and supports macOS, Windows, and Ubuntu.

Unlike recent closed personal agent products, it features a local-first architecture that communicates directly with the AI engines you already subscribe to and hold locally.
Local CLI Integration and Local-First Architecture
OpenMausBot manages agent processes through a small harness server running locally on 127.0.0.1, while transcripts, keys, and events are stored in the local ~/.openmausbot directory rather than a cloud backend.
- Bring Your Own Agents: Directly integrates with the
claude, codex, andgrokCLIs installed on your local machine, allowing you to use existing subscription environments without a middle proxy or new accounts. - Settings Flexibility: Allows pointing any engine to custom CLI binaries or wrapper paths via the application settings.
Isolated Virtual Machines and Computer Control
Each agent maintains its own personality and memory thread, backed by dedicated execution environments to perform tasks.
- Execution Environments: Powered by cloud Linux desktops via
boat.dev, isolated local VMs, or host computer control where certified by platform safety boundaries. - App Integrations: Supports one-click marketplace integrations over Composio Sessions for Gmail, Slack, GitHub, Notion, Linear, and hundreds of other apps.
- Caveats: Host control on Ubuntu Wayland environments remains disabled while issue #345 is resolved.
Permission Broker and Open-Source Significance
Potentially risky actions such as shell command execution or file edits surface as inline cards in chat, allowing the user to explicitly allow or deny them.
OpenMausBot offers an open-source alternative to closed cloud agent ecosystems, storing transcripts, keys, and events locally in ~/.openmausbot while presenting multiple AI agents as a chat roster.
