Octocode: a Rust Tool That Traces Code Structure with a tree-sitter Graph

Dan Kornas introduced Octocode, a Rust code-intelligence tool, in an X post on October 10, 2026. The pitch is simple: AI agents can already search code, but understanding how that code fits together is harder. Octocode is presented as a tool that helps MCP-compatible AI assistants navigate a codebase.
Octocode builds a live graph of files, symbols, imports, calls, inheritance, and implementations using tree-sitter AST parsing. According to the introduction, the goal is to help trace code across file boundaries through that graph.
What It Does and Who It Is For
The introduction lists five headline capabilities.
- Semantic search: finding code by meaning rather than keywords alone.
- Live graph navigation: inspecting relationships and paths across files and symbols.
- Built-in MCP server: exposing search, signature, graph, and structural-search tools to compatible clients.
- Code signatures: reviewing file structure without reading every file in full.
- LSP tools: the original post text is truncated at "jump to definit…", so the full description cannot be verified from the bundle.
It targets builders who explore a codebase together with an MCP-compatible AI assistant — developers who want structural context before handing a repository to an agent.
Verified Access Path and Verification Limits
Only one entry point is verified: the canonical repository page. Install commands, supported client lists, and licensing were not included in the verification bundle and need separate confirmation.

In a follow-up reply, the original author answered a question about graph refresh timing by saying he would want updates from each committed edit rather than every half-finished buffer. That is the author's personal preference stated in a reply, not evidence of Octocode's actual refresh behavior. With no repository metadata in the bundle, actual behavior, performance, and supported-language scope cannot be stated conclusively.
