Lucian AI Chat Exporter Open-Sourced for Multi-LLM Session Compression and Handoff

Lucian AI Chat Exporter is an open-source Chrome extension designed to parse and compress conversation sessions from major AI platforms—including ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and Grok—directly within the browser. Distributed under the MIT license, it operates entirely client-side without relying on external remote servers, minimizing privacy and security concerns during local session management.

Key Features and Architecture

Built on Chrome Manifest V3 (MV3), the extension avoids external LLM or remote API calls, utilizing an on-device, rule-based TypeScript parsing engine instead. In its developer-published test, generating a handoff document from a 1-million-token, 4,514-message conversation took approximately 1.16 seconds. A separate synthetic handoff Q&A test reported an improvement in answer accuracy from 78.8% to 97.6% when an AI read the compressed document.

In addition to standard Markdown output, the exporter supports multiple file formats. It generates PDFs via Chrome's printing engine, official XSD-validated Hangul (HWPX), Word (DOCX), plain text (TXT), HTML, JSON, and full ZIP backup archives. Notably, it ensures that sensitive user login credentials and authentication tokens are never saved to disk or transmitted externally.

Platform Compatibility and Caveats

Full end-to-end account testing has been verified primarily on ChatGPT and Claude, while Gemini and Grok support focuses on internal API and DOM structure adaptation. Because AI service providers frequently update their web UIs and internal API response schemas, DOM parsing fallbacks or temporary limitations on message ingestion may occur until extension updates are applied.
