On October 15, 2026, Google officially launched 'Universal Cart', an integrated shopping solution designed to collect and manage items from multiple online retailers inside a single, unified basket. The feature has begun rolling out gradually to Google Search and Gemini app users across the United States.

The initiative addresses the common friction of managing dozens of open retailer browser tabs, bridging Google's primary search engine and generative AI conversational surface into a cohesive shopping workflow.
Single Unified Cart Across Search Results and Gemini Conversations
The core capability of Universal Cart is consolidating fragmented merchant carts into a single repository within the Google ecosystem.
Shoppers can collect disparate products—such as accessories found via standard Google Search queries and apparel discovered through conversational prompts in the Gemini app—into the same Universal Cart without jumping between store portals.
- Persistent Cross-Session Tracking: Saved cart items remain intact when users return to Search or Gemini across later sessions.
- Price Drop and Restock Alerts: Notifies users when saved items drop in price or are restocked.
- Integrated Promo Codes and Card Benefits: Applicable promotional discount codes and card-linked rewards can be viewed and reviewed directly within the cart interface prior to checkout.
Google Pay Direct Checkout and Merchant Site Handoff
The purchasing experience operates via a dual-path fulfillment model based on merchant integration status.
For participating partner retailers, shoppers can complete purchases directly inside the Universal Cart using Google Pay. For merchants that do not currently support direct in-cart Google Pay transactions, Universal Cart routes the user to the retailer's official website to finalize payment.
This design gives shoppers a single vantage point to monitor multi-store items, comparative pricing, and promotional benefits without requiring merchant-wide checkout consolidation upfront.
Availability and Rollout Constraints
Clear boundaries apply to the initial deployment phase regarding geographic availability and payment support.
Universal Cart is currently being deployed on a staged rollout basis exclusively to Google Search and Gemini app users in the United States; a rollout schedule for international markets, including South Korea, was not included in this announcement. Furthermore, because not all merchants are integrated for native Google Pay processing, purchases from unsupported storefronts still require completing checkout on external merchant websites.
