Gamma Launches Gamma 5: Agent-Centered Rebuild, Layout-Preserving PowerPoint Import, and Enterprise Connectors

On October 6, 2026, AI-native visual communication and presentation platform Gamma (Gamma Tech Inc.) officially rolled out Gamma 5, a comprehensive rebuild of its platform from the ground up. With a user base surpassing 100 million, the company described this release as the largest product overhaul in its history.

The 5.0 release departs from standard one-shot text-to-slide generation, which has led to predictable layouts and recognizable AI design patterns across the industry. Instead, Gamma 5 places an autonomous conversational agent at the center of planning and design, introduces a high-fidelity PowerPoint (PPTX) import pipeline that preserves existing formatting, and connects directly with corporate collaboration tools to bring real business context into visual decks.
Conversational Planning: An AI Agent That Clarifies Goals Before Building Slides
The foundation of Gamma 5 is a rebuilt AI agent designed to collaborate with users throughout the planning and refinement phases.
Instead of generating a finished deck immediately from a single prompt, the agent initiates a back-and-forth dialogue to clarify the core objective and target audience before creating any slides.
- Collaborative Outlining: The agent drafts a narrative structure and visual concept outline for user review, suggesting framing adjustments tailored to audience interests before slide generation begins.
- Sandboxed Execution: Operating within an isolated sandbox environment, the agent independently handles image generation, file operations, web research, and automated output evaluation.
- Automated Defect Corrections: Built-in visual checks detect and correct layout flaws prior to rendering, such as text overflowing slide boundaries or images being cropped awkwardly.
- Multi-Model Orchestration: The system routes requests across more than 20 frontier models from Anthropic, OpenAI, and Google, alongside specialized image generators. To protect professional and educational standards, Gamma favors clean illustrations over photorealistic synthetic images, avoiding anatomical distortions and lighting inconsistencies.
The agent maintains conversational context across the entire editing session, allowing teams to request additions or adjustments without having to restate project goals.
High-Fidelity Import: Preserving PowerPoint Layouts and Eliminating Generic Templates
Gamma 5 also tackles the long-standing friction of importing and repurposing legacy presentations.
According to company data, the share of presentations started from a blank page on Gamma dropped from 59% in Q1 2025 to 31% in 2026. The vast majority of decks are now remixes of existing enterprise materials—prior quarterly reviews, Notion project specifications, or customer call transcripts.
To accommodate this shift, Gamma rebuilt its document import engine:
- Complete Layout Retention: Rather than stripping text into generic templates, Gamma 5 imports PowerPoint (PPTX) and PDF files while keeping original slide compositions, branded templates, approved data charts, and legal footers intact and fully editable.
- 97% Visual Accuracy: Internal benchmarks measuring visual accuracy during slide imports rose from roughly 30% during early development to over 97%.
- In-Place Restyling: Teams can apply Gamma's modern visual themes across an imported presentation in a single pass without breaking existing text hierarchies or layouts, then export the finalized deck back to PowerPoint with formatting preserved.
Enterprise Connectors and a Freeform Canvas for Full Creative Control
Connecting presentation workflows with live organizational knowledge is the third pillar of the Gamma 5 release.
The platform introduces roughly 20 connectors spanning productivity suites, CRMs, and call transcription services, including Salesforce Slack, Notion, HubSpot, Granola, Fireflies, and Fathom.
- Contextual Generation: Users can link a Slack project thread or a Granola meeting transcript directly to a deck, allowing the agent to extract key facts and generate targeted client pitches without extensive prompt engineering.
- Enterprise Access Governance: Connectors strictly respect existing corporate permissions, and the agent proactively flags sensitive or confidential internal material for user review before inclusion.
- Freeform Canvas Editor: Moving beyond rigid layout constraints, users can transition between agent-assisted guidance and an unconstrained canvas. Elements can be freely repositioned, custom code can be generated, shapes can be drawn, and individual visual objects can be adjusted directly.
- Persistent Brand Context: Brand preferences, custom instructions, and workspace templates persist across projects, ensuring visual consistency from early concept to final delivery.
Gamma 5 is now available to all users. All previously created decks remain safely accessible, and teams can toggle back to 'Gamma Classic' at any time to inspect or edit older materials in their original environment.
